RSF candidate thanks supporters and vows to contest again

REPUBLICAN Sinn Féin candidate for Athy Town Council Des Dalton in a statement thanked all those who voted for him in the recent local elections and pledged to contest the next local elections in 2014.

“I would like to thank all those who voted for me in the local elections and honoured me with their vote. While not successful on this occasion I am proud of the campaign put in by Republican Sinn Féin and thank all who supported and worked in the campaign.

“The recent campaign highlighted the fact that many ordinary people feel powerless and disconnected from politics not only nationally but in also in own town. The people have voted and made their choice on this occasion, however it is essential that people are given a real alternative to the politics of the status quo.

“Republican Sinn Féin believes in real change and not just the platitudes delivered at election time by all of the establishment parties. We believe in true local democracy which involves not excludes people from the decision-making which affect all our lives. For this reason I will be contesting the local elections in 2014 whilst continuing in the meantime to work for ordinary working people through my political work and the trade union movement. We believe a better and New Ireland is possible but it must be worked for.”

"We of Republican Sinn Féin are the nucleus, which represents what Emmet represented,
the soul of Ireland, the prophetic shock minority, those who are neither purchased nor intimidated."
