Tony Ruane Commemoration

Republican Sinn Féin will be holding its annual Tony Ruane commemoration in Carlow cemetery on Sunday June 21 at 3.pm. Tony Ruane, a native of Co Mayo was a life-long Irish Republican. He took part in the Black and Tan war as well as the subsequent war against the Treaty in 1922-23. He remained an active Republican for the rest of his life and served as national Treasurer of Sinn Féin from 1966 up to the early 1980s. He was also honoury life Vice President of Sinn Féin. He died in 1991.
