Kevin Barry Commemoration held in Rathvilly, Co Carlow

On Sunday 18th of November despite the inclement weather, there was a great turnout at the 92nd Annual Kevin Barry Commemoration in Rathvilly.

The parade was led by an impressive colour party from Wexford. Proceedings were chaired by James Corcoran from Carlow RSF. Wreaths were laid by PaddyBarcoe, Killeshin, Wexford National Graves and Padraig O’Pearaill Cumann RSF Wexford.

There was a minute’s silence, followed by the dipping of flags in respect of the Republican dead.  The oration was given by Diarmuid MacDubhglais from Dublin.

He began by recalling Kevin Barry’s sacrifice for an Irish Republic and then highlighted the plight of Republican Prisoners especially the internees Martin Corey, Gerry McGeough and Marian Price. He contrasted their principled selflessness with Provisional Sinn Fein’s betrayal of Republicanism.
