Victory in Co Galway: 'It can be done' - Ó Brádaigh
Statement on election results from Ruairí Ó Brádaigh, President, Republican Sinn Féin
THE leadership of Republican Sinn Féin congratulates all who took part in the 26-County local elections in support of our nine candidates over seven counties.
Much energy and our limited resources were expended in promoting the Republican ideal especially in the past couple of months.
The victory of Councillor Tomás Ó Curraoin in the Conamara area of Co Galway in reclaiming one of the two Co Council seats held by the organisation in the past was indeed a tonic.
That outstanding success proves that Republican Sinn Féin candidates are electable - it can be done! - but that hard work on the ground is necessary over a prolonged period of time.
Meanwhile the work of rebuilding the Republican Movement in the aftermath of the defections of recent years continues.
